Staying clocked in when you\'re not playing: Standard or unethical?
At the Borgata, for example, they clock everyone out at 6AM to prevent people from not clocking out. However if you play from around 12 midnight to 6:30 its possible to just leave and stay clocked in for 24 full hours. At other places they only reset the computers once a week or so.
I came up playing online and don't know a lot of the ethics of live play....is this a standard thing that everyone does and even the floormen don't really mind or is this consider unethical? What would the floor do if they discovered you doing this? |

Can you explain what exactly you're talking about to those of us who are internet dwellers?

Can you explain what exactly you're talking about to those of us who are internet dwellers? [/ QUOTE ]Casinos give out comps and rewards to their players to try to get them to play more. For example you'll see tons of threads about the poker room rates. BAsically you have to play a certain amount per day(usually 4-5 hours) and you get a cheaper hotel rate. Also most casinos will give you comps at their shops/restaurants(depending on where you play and which limits its usally $1 or $2 per hour that you play). Additionally if the casino sees that you've been playing a lot, they're more likely to send you freebies in the mail such as free hotel stays or show tickets. Addittionally most casinos have high volume clubs(like SuperNova on Stars for exmaple) if you get enough hours in a month or a year's time. If you're a member, you get to go through shorter lines and have special VIP rooms in the casino for you. The way that they measure all of these things is that they give you a card and when you sit down at the table you give your card to the floor and he "clocks you in." When you leave you give it to him again to clock out. |

It's stealing. [/ QUOTE ] Perhaps its stealing the rooms you have been to, but the rooms I have played in the management knows this occurs, and in some cases they encourage it's practice as a way to look after their best customers. Its a loophole, management generally knows this occurs, and they don't care enough to close the loophole. In short, nobody seems to care. TT [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] |

Re: Staying clocked in when you\'re not playing: Standard or unethical?
Wait, I was under the impression that if you didn't clock out, you weren't credited for anything.
So if you clock in at midnight, they clock you out at 6 (and you get comped for 6 hours), then clock you in again. But if you just take off you never get clocked out and so you never get anything above the 6 hours. Am I wrong? If so, I have no problem with it. I especially don't mind taking from the Borgata with their 2 for 1 exchange rate on comp dollars in places. Sure its still wrong, and I'm just justifying my wrong actions, but I'd do it without worrying too much. |

Re: Staying clocked in when you\'re not playing: Standard or unethical?
i hate to be a moral relativist, because this is definitely unethical, but casinos are so predatory and scummy that i say f em.
honestly, i would probably tell them if it was me, but would not think less of someone who did not. |
