Default Republican attempting to change Washington State poker ban

** Mods if this has already been posted please delete this post.**

Go ahead and blame the Republicans for everything but this guy is standing up for what's right and trying to do something to change the stupid Washington state law. Glad to see someone is willing to take a stand, I hope the guy succeeds.

Everyone in Washington state should be supporting this guy as much as possible regardless of their political affiliation.

If you live in Wash. you should also call your local state Reps. and Senators and urge them to vote for this bill.

Totally agree. This is a big step in the right direction and as we all know, the chance to get an unjust law over turned is very rare. Wish we had this opportunity with the UIGEA.

I actually seent an email to the gentleman who would schedule a heaing on this matter... I suggest all here do this... And no I am not a constituent...

Here's the quick email I sent...

To: "Conway.steve@leg.wa.gov" <Conway.steve@leg.wa.gov>
Subject: Re:House Bill 1243

Good afternoon,

I am not a constituent, but I have been following online poker legslation for some
time now. I believe this bill has some merit and I hope you do consider to hold
a hearing on this issue.

I am one of millions of Americans who enjoy online poker and I feel the government
has gone down the wrong avenue in reguards to removing our freedom in this matter.

I think passing this bill will be a major step in protecting our rights as Americans
and potentially in the future regulating the online poker industry for Americans
to be able to enjoy from the comfort of their own homes.

Have a great day.

Sent it -

I would suggest the other states that are facing similar issues, make their representatives aware of what is happening in WA State.

A little more ground noise cant hurt

The actual language of the bill ammendment is interesting. It specifically says an "affirmative defense" is that if you are using your own computer at home, for your own recreational use, and not part of a for profit company or organization, you are ok.

Obviously I'm paraphrasing but that was the gist.

I also found it encouraging that the bill was written by the "Minority Assistant Chair" (Republican) and the other sponsors were democrats.

The fact that it has some level of bi-partisianship, and put out by the Republican Minority Chair (albeit assistant) gives me some glimmer of hope.

Now I'm not nearly as policitally savy as others here, but right now I'll take what I can get.
