Default OMG ePassporte works with Bank of America debit cards!

After being turned down 3 times when trying to deposit onto epassporte from my BofA debit card, I spoke with my local bank manager, who put me into contact with the fraud department. ePassporte automatically triggers a block within the BofA network as a possibly fraudulant charge. All you have to do to unblock this is phone the fraud department (sorry, they did this for me at the bank, so I don't know what it is) or go to your local branch office and ask that the block be removed. Voila! After reading a number of other posts where this very same problem was encountered, I would hypothesize that most debit cards can be used as long as you make sure the bank unblocks epassporte

As long as I'm posting, I'm just going to add my 2 cents to this whole legislative clusterfuck. Online poker is not going away. The fish are not going away, and here's why:

1. Nothing has dampened the appeal of texas hold'em. Any average day will find 2-8 hours of hold'em or occasionally omaha on basic cable television. Just a quick browse of my mediacom shows that today we have Poker After Dark at 2am on NBC and WSOP at 5pm on ESPN2. If anything, this is a slow day. Normally Aussie millions, other WSOP events, celebrity poker, etc, etc, etc are on. When did poker really become extremely popular? With the invention of the pocket cam. TV has made poker the hot new guilty pleasure and the exposure there is not slowing in the least.

2. Most Americans don't care at all if online poker is illegal or sort-of legal. Remember file sharing and peer-to-peer servers. Guess what, the death of Napster, kaza, etc didn't diminish this field in the slightest and the allure of free songs is nothing compared to the possiblity of free money. If the government can't truly control the pirating, nay stealing, of movies and songs - something almost all americans would at least claim to belive to be wrong - then they have no chance when it comes to stemming the tide of online poker.

3. The amount of money that poker sites and eWallets stand to make provided online poker continues is enormous. Who in their right mind wouldn't continue to seek out every new way possible to provide these services if the current systems are halted? Again, this is remarkably similar to file sharing. One server is shut down, 2 more spring up. The government is simply way too slow to stop online poker.

4. The one real threat to online poker is inconvenience. If it somehow becomes more convenient to play at the local (or not so local) casino than to play online, the fish will leave. That's why I'm so happy to see that epassporte is MUCH simpler to use than I had originally thought. As long as our local John Fish can whip out his debit card, deposit, and 45 seconds later be playing online, then we have nothing to worry about. And that appears to be about as much effort as ePassporte takes.

Peace,
Swingdoc

Well, just remember, since you requested the block to be removed you have no recourse if Epassporte pulls some kind of scam later on. Remember, BBB has Epassporte rated as a 'F'.

I in no way endorse Epassport, I haven't done any business with them and I know nothing about them. I note this in their descriptions of the rating system:

[ QUOTE ]
F We strongly question the company’s reliability for reasons such as that they have failed to respond to complaints, their advertising is grossly misleading, they are not in compliance with the law’s licensing or registration requirements, their complaints contain especially serious allegations, or the company’s industry is known for its fraudulent business practices.

[/ QUOTE ]

Note this descritption is generict to any company getting an F not a specific description of Epassporte. I added the bold...could this be why they got an F? Particularly in light of the below:

[ QUOTE ]
Our complaint history for this company shows the company gave proper consideration to complaints presented by the Bureau.

[/ QUOTE ]

And the below doesn't look too bad either:

[ QUOTE ]
The following grid displays the number and responses to complaints over the last 36 months:

No. of Cmpl Type of Response
3 Making a full refund, as the consumer requested
0 Making a partial refund
11 Agreeing to perform according to their contract
1 Refusing to make an adjustment
4 Refuse to adjust, relying on terms of agreement
0 Unanswered
0 Unassigned
19Total

That's not true. Whatever recourse you would have had against future unauthorized charges, you still have.

I did the same thing. I used my BofA debit card to fund ePassporte. It went through immediately and worked fine. Later that day my debit card no longer worked, and I got an email from BofA saying I needed to contact the fraud department.

I called the fraud department, they went over my last few charges with me, I said that they were all authorized, and they removed the block on my card.

The person I talked to said that it was because I had several Internet charges on my card that day (which I did -- probably three or four in addition to ePassporte), and that's why the fraud thing was triggered. She didn't say anything about ePassporte specifically, although it would make a lot of sense if that's what did it.
