Default Fancy play syndrome?

Is there any room in low limit 6max for this move? (Villain was 18-15). The idea was to check behind on the turn so it looked like Id raised the flop with a flush draw. Hed then hopefully bet the river and Id be able to raise to hopefully get up to 2 BBs from hands that woulda folded to a turn bet. Too fancy? Plain silly? What do u think?

Yes.

If he's not gonna call the turn, what would he be willing to put 2 BB in with on the river? If he has JJ-99 he is not folding if you just bet it all the way, but he may fold if you raise the river. He might call down with AK as well. If he has a flushdraw not betting the turn would be really bad too.

So, yeah definitely FPS, IMO.

my guess is "i hate money". the turn card didn't realy change much unless he had middle pair. if he has a hand like diamonds or JT, you're gonna hate yourself. and what if he has QT-QJ? BETBETBETBETBETBETBET.

I have taken similar lines in rare situations where I felt that taking an unorthodox line might throw my opponent off of his game. That said, you risk losing a bet if he check/calls the river with a hand that would have called twice, as well as if he check/folds a drawing hand that would have called the turn.

I think you should just bet this the majority of the time, but this is one of those spots where you can change it up a bit and look wierd without giving up too much EV.

You also have a problem. What if the flush comes in? If he thinks you raised for the flush he's folding. Unless, of course, he has the flush, then you're paying 3bets to lose on the river.

Checking the turn = lighting money on fire.
