Default your ten favorite songs from the year you graduated HS!

the rules: all songs must have been a single, not just an album track. All songs must have charted in the year you graduated. AND ONLY ONE SONG PER ARTIST!

I'm cheating because I couldn't narrow mine down to ten. And some HUGE songs from my year didn't make the cut: Tainted Love, Bette Davis Eyes, Jessie's Girl, Hey Nineteen, etc.

So here's my TOP FIFTEEN SONGS FROM THE CLASS OF 1981!

15. Never Say Never - Romeo Void

Great, driving beat and one hell of a sexy delivery by Debora Iyall.

14. Stop Dragging My Heart Around - Stevie Nicks & Tom Petty

What a great superstar match-up!

13. Angel of the Morning - Juice Newton

Fantastic vocal and ridiculously romantic.

12. Police on my Back - The Clash

This song is like a slap to the face. Awesome.

11. Take it on the Run - REO Speedwagon

Maybe the greatest "get lost" song of them all.

10. Tom Sawyer - Rush

Rush rocks. Period.

9. Tempted - Squeeze

Wow, what a great pop song. More Squeeze please!

8. Don't Stand So Close to Me - The Police

What other song sounds this cool and sexy, yet is literate enough to mention Nabakov?

7 Urgent - Foreigner

Jr. Walker's sax on this rips most guitar solos to shreds.

6. Ah! Leah - Donnie Iris

Here's a one-hit wonder that's truly great. Fantastic lick.

5. Since You're Gone - The Cars

Has any group bridged pop, rock and punk better than The Cars?

4. In The Air Tonight - Phil Collins

Haunting, powerful, with the most famous drum break ever.

3. Genius of Love - Tom Tom Club

Deliriously goofy and fun and constantly sampled.

2. Back in Black - AC/DC

This song proved AC/DC was back and better than ever.

1. Our Lips are Sealed - The GoGos

What I think just might be the world's most perfect pop song.

edited to fix my Urgent faux pas.

7 Urgent - Foreigner

Edgar Winter's sax on this rips most guitar solos to shreds.

Too busy to chase this down on wikipedia, but wasn't this Jr. Walker, of Jr. Walker and the All Stars?

You're right! It's Jr. Walker. For some reason I always thought it was Winter. My apologies to Mr. Walker.

I can't remember when stuff came out, so I just searched for the highest charting songs from'99. Wow! What a god-awful year. The only 2 singles I can remember coming out that year, that I liked, were "Lit Up" by Buckcherry and "Sexx Laws" by Beck. There's probably some more, but based on what charted the highest, I would really be hard pressed to find 10 I liked.

1987

1. Heartbreak Beat - The Psychedelic Furs (#26)

2. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For - U2 (#1)

3. I Want Your Sex - George Michael (#2)

4. Jammin' Me - Tom Petty (#18)

5. Ship Of Fools (Save Me From Tomorrow) - World Party (#27)

6. We'll Be Together - Sting (#7)

7. U Got The Look - Prince (#2)

8. True Faith (The Morning Sun) - New Order (#32)

9. Touch Of Grey - Grateful Dead (#9)

10. Something So Strong - Crowded House (#7)

This is prolly not the billboard chart but good enough - pretty terrible year and not indicative of my taste.

Top 10 from 2003: I actually just quickly looked over a top 100 year end chart and picked 10 I liked FTR:

Clocks, Coldplay (6 weeks at #1)

Like A Stone, Audioslave

Seven Nation Army, White Stripes

Hey Ya!, Outkast (2 weeks at #1)

Lose Yourself, Eminem

ok this is way too hard all these songs are terrible. Timberlake and 50 cent make up almost 10 of the top 100 yikes.
