An example from "Middle limit holdem".
If you agree with the authors, what kind of player would BB (and to some extent the EP caller) be for you to make this play? Or would you always raise? EP limp, hero limps w 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], ... MP raises , ... SB calls, BB calls, EP calls, hero calls. Flop (5 players): Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] checked around. Turn (5 players, ~5 BB): Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] SB checks, BB bets , EP calls, Hero raises... |

looks good. I think the reasoning is that BB would not give a freecard on a flush board when he did have a queen. As EP just calls he's probably drawing, and you might very well have the best hand here. I assume this is a free showdown raise?
Probably not when BB is the passive donk type, he might very well think his Q9 was no good on the flop and just call it down when no spade hits. Then when his 3rd queen hits he considers betting. Folding here is weak imo, and raising is better than calling, so you raise. |

He May have missed a flop c/r, but he could easily be betting a good six here thinking that no one checked top pair on the flop. EP concerns me a bit, but not much. He either has a 6, a PP sometimes > 77, or spades. The pot is likely his if he'd raised though. You should also realize that most times hero bets the river its a bluff. |
