"Baller", where has this word been?

Since when has the word "baller" been such a commonly used word? Is it simply popular following "We Fly High"? Or is this all my imagination?

Either way, two months ago I could not cite a time that I had ever heard the word used at all, minus MTV programming. Today alone i have already heard it from other students on campus more than once. Whatever, this post is baller.
