I think I figured it out. It looks like the government gets anywhere from 8% to 20% of a normal casino operation's gross income. That's a pretty goddarned substantial taxation.

They've found a new way to fund the war on terror, apparently: Let a bunch of companies amass a giant amount of wealth, and then attempt to seize it all!

So, now the government is going to piss off the U.K... what's next, the IRA?
100% taxation!

The single largest target, according to The Daily Telegraph, is Anurag Dikshit, the brains behind PartyGaming.

I wonder if this article is saying the founders of PartyGaming are the main/only targets of the DOJ subpoenas, or whether the article just happens to be focused on Party.

In any case, anyone want to bet that this is what doomed Party?

They did add the sports betting BEFORE they pulled out of the US, right? Not a good move, unless you're confident India won't extradite.

I am shocked at how quickly they moved onto poker. I thought they would take baby steps.

I overestimated my faith in our current government (which was already very low).

[/ QUOTE ] They added the Casino before but I believe the sportsbook (at least the non-norse racing part) came after.

Do we know at this point that this is poker related and not casino/racing/whatever? I haven't played at Party for years so I am not up on when they implemented what.

Well, one upside is that the more the DOJ pisses off the UK, the better our chances for something WTO related to happen.

I think.
