$6 AQ facing all in
Second hand in the tournament, villain insta-smoothcalls my raise so I sense a pocket pair or high Ax. When he called my flop bet I felt I was behind so I checked the turn. I had trouble with this all in, is there any way I can call this? Please help if you know the right way to look at this

Re: $6 AQ facing all in
While in a $6.50 villain can make this play with Ax x<Q, your most likely beat here... i like a check on the river with the intention of calling a small bet. BTW I'm not playing AQs UTG this early.. but I'm a noob so...

Re: $6 AQ facing all in
I like the way you played the hand.
On the river, I'd usually call. It is AJ-8 as much as anything else EDIT : checking the river is ususally bad, I think, especially at a 6.5 |

Re: $6 AQ facing all in
I think your riverbet is too big. A weaker hand wil not call, a stronger hand will raise you.

Re: $6 AQ facing all in
I think you've got to make up your mind about what you really want to have happen on this river. Think about the action in the hand: He called your PF raise, and then called a very healthy flop bet, which at the $6.50s can really mean anything. But then he checks behind on the turn even with the FD popping up. At this point I'm probably ruling out a 7, and giving barely any credit at all for 222 as he would want to put more money in the pot on the turn with a made boat on the flop. If you think you are beat here, he likely either has 666 and filled up on the turn (now the check behind makes sense), backed into a flush (less likely), or has AK (even less likely). Or the most likely scenario: He has any of a plethora of hands that you are currently crushing with your hand of AA77Q. If you feel this is the case, then bet for value on the river (i.e. he's not going to call a push, so try and make as big a bet as you think he can call). If he pushes over you and your value bet is relatively small (let's say instead of 380 you bet something like 225), I would call pretty quick as a lot of players at these stakes love to try and push you off your hand if they sense your bet is weak on the river, and they feel they have some FE with you. If you had bet bigger (say pot at 470), and he again pushes over you, you are now more likely beat as his FE has gone down and even bad players understand that the smaller your stack is, the more pot committed you become when the pot becomes that big.
In your case with that middle sized bet of 380, I feel like it's probably 50/50 whether or not you are beat here, but since it looks like your stack is already less than 1000 after your river bet, I am probably calling his push fairly often as I would much rather double now, than have to give up this juicy pot and play the rest of the tourney with a pretty beat up stack. |

Re: $6 AQ facing all in
Instant fold, I don't think he would reraise all-in with a worse hand than AQ.

Re: $6 AQ facing all in
You are crushed...fold
I would cb less on flop...maybe 1/2 pot is enough to fold out overcards other than big aces turn I check river I check and call small bet Its more important to conserve your chips at this stage rather than play a big pot for over 1/3 your stack so early. Nothing wrong with limping AQs here, great hand to play multiway early in a tourney like this. |

Re: $6 AQ facing all in
Why is checking the river bad? Check calling gives most value to your hand. I wouldn't be surprised if villain played a 7 like this at the 6.50's. Hell, they even do it at the 16's. Lawl

Re: $6 AQ facing all in
I like your line except for the river. Check-call most river bets.
