Default Help me get in basketball shape

I recently just started playing in the Men's League here in town and I am way out of shape. I can't stand just running on a treadmill. I had two break-aways today and afterwards I had to pull myself for sucking wind. We play two 20 minute halves and I can only play maybe 25 mins, but I'm pretty much spent after 10. Does anybody have any creative suggestions for getting in shape?

Run outdoors 25-30 minutes a day, 6 days a week. Start with slow jogs, as the jogs get easier begin to pick up the pace every few minutes, in a few weeks you should be able to run 30 minutes alternating one minute slow jog and one minute hard run. This will simulate playing basketball and help you get in shape.

Do this in addition to playing basketball as often as you can. Don't substitute 15 minutes of basketball for a daily run.

Suicides. Lots of em. You need interval training or at least sprints. Basketball is not soccer.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY suck at basketball, enough so, that the kids down at the YMCA call me whitebread, but when we plick for pickup games, I always get selected because I can run around the court on them because of this:

find a steep/semi long hill, like 40 yards or so, set up cones every 10 to 15 yards and do jingle jangles, (run to first cone, run back to the bottom, run to the second, back down). Do this at a sprint pace, until you can do them for like 20 minutes straight at full sprint, then add weight, ie a backpack with 15lbs in it, keep adding weight when your lungs/shape improve over time.

I opened this thread intending to post suicides. fwiw, you run suicides/sprints in soccer, too. We used to do these things called west germans (probably my portugee coach made the term up).. you'd jog the goal line of the field, then sprint corner to corner, jog, corner to corner. 10 of those were brutal.

Also, OP, just playing in pick-up games other nights of the week will help you get into game shape.
