Guess I'm Done. (Stars account hacked)

My computer got hacked and a guy from Vietnam got access to my e-mail and Stars accounts and blew all the money I had online. He didn't chip dump to anyone so Stars can't do anything to get the money back.

I don't really know why I'm posting this. MTTc is my most visited forum and even though I never posted incredibly frequently or played enough volume to rise to high stakes, I know and respect the people here tremendously. I had built my roll up from one $25 initial deposit only and don't have free money to start up with again. I haven't made any real friends on 2p2 because I don't post that frequently, so I don't have anyone to turn to for a stake or anything either. Guess it's just an expensive lesson and a lot of time wasted. But it was definitely fun while it lasted.

It was fun while it lasted. 2+2 has certainly helped me grow tremendously as a poker player and as a person. I'll probably keep reading for awhile because 2p2's my default site and that'll be a hard routine to break.

Also, sorry if this post is a little incoherent. This all went down like half an hour ago, so I'm not taking my time or anything. Feel free to PM me if you have any advice or anything.

did stars give you any indication how this was done?
how did he get your psword?

mainly my question is, can you help us avoid this fate in the future?

i've been hearing this story way too often lately. im careful about what i dl and stuff but it still makes me kinda nervous about keeping a lot of money online.

Basically, I somehow got a keylogger on my system. This can register all keys pressed, mouseclicks, etc. Some can even see my screen (don't know what kind I got). I guess I either got it through AIM (doubtful--I did connect to a 2p2er on AIM fairly recently, but I'd like to give him benefit of the doubt) or by visiting some website with one embedded. Guy got my passwords to e-mail and Stars, deleted the new passwords stars sent me and changed the e-mail to my account.

Apparently, the IP he logged on with was from Vietnam. He blew the roll on NL cash just donking away.

is your system secure now? if you have a keylogger than he could potentially have the pw for any other site you log into so you should definitely make sure you got rid of it and then change the pw for all your banking/email/etc asap

I've run a bunch of spyware [censored] and changed all my passwords. Debating w/ myself about reformatting the hard-drive. Think program files could be corrupted or is it safe to back those up?

a keylogger isn't necessarily going to get caught by spyware tools... if you dont already have an antivirus program then dl one and run a full scan
