checking that turn isnt horrible if you know that UTG is weak but will stab again if given the chance on the river. If he is weak you wont be getting any more money out of him if you bet + having the effective nuts and drawing to the nuts (excluding SF here for simplicity) means that you can maximize your money by getting him to fire another bluff on the river. Your potbet on the flop and then check on the turn is a decent set up saying you might have a weak flush so I kinda like this line.

IMO 1/2 pot on the turn will just end the hand, which isnt exactly what we want here if we can get more money out of villain

Yeah, there is basically nothing that can call you on the turn here. So if you bet the turn maybe sometimes someone will take a stab at knocking you off your hand, but it's not too likely and you certainly shouldn't get called by anything ever, even when you lay pretty decent odds. I think you have a much better chance of making money if you check.
