I have around a 500k hand database from playing at FT and was interested in playing on Stars. My question is, is there any need to create a new, separate database for a new poker site? Is there any drawback to having one huge database? My thinking was to have a database for every poker site. Does anybody do anything similar to that?

You would likely find a better response on the poker tracker forums. That said, I combine all my play from various sites into one database and start a new one each calendar year to limit the size. There is a size limitation on the access databases and my performance would deteriorate when the databases got too large. It improved when I converted to the PostgreSQL format.

If you use a HUD, then yes, definitely create a new DB.
It takes resources to search a large db, so no sense searching stats no longer applicable... |

I make a new one every month and use one for all the sites.

So how do you make a new one. I've noticed mine is getting bigger and if I try to look at lifetime stats it freezes up a lot. Any help on making a new one for a computer idiot?

There is an option to make a new DB in File>Maintain DB Names. If you want a new PSQL DB you need to make an Access DB first than convert it.
