Sizing your raises
This hand got me think about my raises and i'd like some some of your opinions in general on raises when you flop the nuts. Thanks.
Now on this particular hand I don't think i was getting paid off anyhow as the only reason he bet out at the flop (i think) is I had been stealing pots on the flop off him relentlessly. However say this situation came up again and my opponent had a hand he liked. How much would you raise? Would you pot it, raise slightly less/slightly more. Or just smooth call? Re: Sizing your raises
Raises to 3 in this example.
Do NOT slowplay the nuts without good reason, especially one vulnerable to redraws. |

Re: Sizing your raises
id raise to $2.50. $3 seems a lil too much, the only hands that have redraws are set/KQ/Q9, and a set is re-raising there. I'd b raisin to $3 on a more draw heavy board, like 2 flush, or a more connected board such as TJ8

Re: Sizing your raises
In the example given I make it $3. If the bet was pot sized I make it $4.50. When I have the nuts I want as much money going in as possible while I know I am ahead.

Re: Sizing your raises
I'm never slow playing this... you have the temporary nuts. If you assume he has some kind of hand then he has outs to beat you. KQ or a set both can easily outdraw you. I'd start building the pot now. Lok at the effective stack sizes. You have $30 behind and 3 streets to get it in. I'd raise to at least $3 here. That's still giving villain better than 2 to 1 odds to call.

Re: Sizing your raises
Bet just under the pot everytime. Don't slowplay, you will only get paid when someone has anything anyways.

Re: Sizing your raises
I'd make a standard pot sized raise but I'd fold this preflop. 89s doesn't play well UTG at 6max let alone FR.

Re: Sizing your raises
So pot sized raise given 0.7 bet = 3x0.7+1.6 = 3.7
Pot sized raise given 1.5 bet = 4.5+1.6 = 6.1 I usually think pot sized raises turn out to be a little bit heavy - does anyone else agree? Unless I specifically need to offer bad odds to a flush draw, in practice I tone it down a little. Is this a good idea or should I just straightforwardly mash it? Here I would sling it up to $3 given a 0.7 bet, and probably to 4.5 or 5 given a PSB. |
