Re: flopped three pair
I'd worry about both sets and draws.

So would you find a fold here?

So would you find a fold here? [/ QUOTE ] Three pair with no other redraws is pretty weak, unless the preflop action suggests you're playing against AAxx or A2xx. The worst part here is that there are only six cards that are not scare cards for you here. Anything above an 8 puts the possibility of a straight, any babies make the backdoor low possible, and any clubs have gotta make you nervous. Any ace could mean a higher two pair.... I think I could find a fold here. |

The 50 times villain doesn't have a set, or any other serious hand, he folds and the hand's over. So while it's true he's a 50:1 longshot to hold a set by complete chance - once he reraises pot on the flop: the chance of him holding a set just skyrocketed. |

Re: flopped three pair
Yeah, the probability is conditional. And even if the odds of a set are still low, there are plenty of other hands you don't want to be up against either.
I tend to take check-raises pretty seriously in PLO8, so I would probably fold here. But even if you wanted to continue with the hand, it might make more sense to just call. If opponent has a set and a club falls, he may not bet and you save yourself some money; if a club falls and he bets you can be fairly sure he was betting some sort of combo draw and fold. Not that playing the hand is necessarily going to get easier on later streets, but I think shoveling in more money on the flop when you're 90+% likely to be behind is a mistake. It's not even like you have some middle-strength draw where getting it all in on the flop so that you can see both cards makes sense. |
