The mother of all OOT wine threads
Had a basic wine question that I wanted to ask OOT, but thought I should search first (man is the search function a pain) and I found a wealth of info. Here are most of the threads about wine that I found from the past four months:
Wine Recommendations 100 wines for 2+2ers to try Good Cheap Wines Best red wines under $30? Suggestions ASAP please. Best Wine for Under $6/Bottle Wine help: California cabs Wine Pairing food/wine pairing Wine pairings Pick me a wine for surf and turf What wine would go best with Thanksgiving dinner? Trip Reports Oregon wine country trip report Korean Wine Bar - Trip Report Wine Drinking - N00b Trip Report Wine Drinking - N00b Trip Report II Misc. great wine thing on the web asians and wine survey Now to my question. I'm going to a friend's house for dinner tonight. He's making roast pork, and I was thinking of bringing some Beaujolais. Sound OK? Any specific recs? |

Re: The mother of all OOT wine threads
I used this on Wine Spectator's site a lot for finding wine stores in my area
Also, I don't know how many people saw the thread that MikeI made about Wine Library TV, but those that haven't checked it out really should. Its a great way to find out about new wines and is really fun to watch too. The great thing about it too is that you can order almost all of the wines that he tastes from Wine Library itself |

The selected post/topic has been added to your list. [/ QUOTE ] Thanks econ! All, BevMo has an online list of all their 90 point wines (656 of them) that you can sort by price. I've been checking that out. Also, was in Costo yesterday and saw a lady buying tons of Santa Ema 2003 60/40 merlot/cab mix. 7 bucks. I had some last night, it was great. Quite a bargain. |

Now to my question. I'm going to a friend's house for dinner tonight. He's making roast pork, and I was thinking of bringing some Beaujolais. Sound OK? Any specific recs? [/ QUOTE ] It depends on how the pork is prepared. Is there a sauce? For a plain roast, you might want to try Gewurztraminer or some other white from Alsace. If it's got a red sauce (barbecue, etc.) then a Zinfandel would work well (something closer to 13% alcohol than 16%). I'm not at all a fan of Beaujolais, but a lot of people like it - and it would prbably be fine - a cru from the 2003 or 2005 vintages. |
