I picked this title up with left over points from Party Poker when they decided to cut off American players. I haven't got around to reading it yet but I'll be sure to write a review once I do.

Hi there, i was wondering has anyone read this book by Lou Kreiger, and whether it is any good? Thanks [/ QUOTE ] I read this some time back, and my only memory of it was that I found nothing of real added value in it. It was just a rehash of Lou's basic stuff from his other books, attempting to tie it to the Internet. There is nothing really wrong with Kreiger's books for a total newb, but there is better stuff out there. After reading a number of books about "Internet poker", I have concluded that you should concentrate on learning to play poker and forget about inside info on Internet games. Poker is poker. Internet "tells" are pointless. All of the specific Internet tells are based on speed of action, which is more affected by connections, multitabling, multitasking, etc., than by attempts to deceive. The best tells are things like betting patterns, which are the same live or online. Any really useful information about specific sites or games is obsolete by the time it gets into print. You are a lot better off reading the Zoo and the forums dedicated to the games you play for that kind of stuff than reading books about Internet poker. And you are much better off studying (rereading) good poker books than reading books about Internet poker. |

[/ QUOTE ] I agree. One book I really like is Internet Texas Holdem by Hilger. And the reason I like it is not because of the "Internet" part. In fact, the internet parts of the book are a little sketchy and, like you said, anything specific fairly quickly became obsolete. It's almost a misnomer of a book. I think maybe it helped sales when it was new because of the internet poker boon, and maybe it's actually hurting sales now, I don't know. But the reason it's a great book is because it teaches you to play good poker, period. It's the book I'd recommend if you were going to play limit poker in a casino. (That's the other problem with the book - it's limit only, and that's not mentioned anywhere.) |

I read Lee Jones' book when I first started out but Hilger's book helped me put things together and get me winning. He will also answer any and all questions on his forum and that was a big plus for me as well. |
