Default Session Reviewing (long)

I have spent my whole day reading through the links at the bottom of this post. I made an outline for myself with regard to my poker workout and this is what I came up with. Note that most if not all of the information in this post has already been stated elsewhere on 2p2. All I have done is put it all together and altered it to fit my liking. I don’t by any means consider myself to be a well-rounded player right now, but I believe that if I stick to this basic plan I will get there much faster. Enjoy!

Session/Study Plan

DAILY-
1. Read/Comment on new 2p2 posts
2. Open session log in excel
3. Open all poker software
4. Play session
a. Concentrate
b. Take notes on players
c. Write questionable hands in memento
5. After session, review questionable hand in lots of depth. I.e. +-EV calculations for close calls [hand written notes. (look under weekly #1)].
6. Post any hands your unable to figure out on 2p2.
7. Go back to 2p2 and read new comments on threads you viewed earlier.

WEEKLY-
1. Take hand written notes on the following:
a. Watch for:
b. Leaks
c. Mistakes
d. Miss applied concepts
e. "Well dones" for positive re-enforcement
f. How would you exploit yourself?
g. Review with regard to FTOP (how would your play be different if you knew your opponents’ cards
h. Review with regard to the "Mental checklist"
2. Review baseline stats.
3. Review 25/15 (top losses/wins)
4. Pick a random 200-300 hand session and watch from start to finish (even hands that you didn’t play in). Watch for how your play changes and if you adjusted well.

MONTHLY-
1. Review daily/weekly notes
2. Under position stats tab, compare VPIP/PFR for each position and review abnormalities
3. Review that months hands with regard to gurumans/pokey’s leak check method (altar pokey’s method to fit to limit)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mistake Check list:

Pre-Flop:

Missed C-bet-
C-bet I'm properly-

Poor blind defense (Postflop)-

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pokey's Method (short)

1. Do you have sufficient preflop aggression?
2. Are you positionally aware?
3. How's my stealing?
4. Defending the blinds.

6. Multiway pots.
7. Pocket pairs.

4. Check "put money in" under VP$IP and click OK
5. Sort by the "times" column
6. Look for red near the top
7. Repeat steps 4-6 with "pairs" and "suited"
8. Uncheck all of the "type of hole cards" boxes, and check "big blind" under blind status.
9. Repeat with the small blind.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mental Checklist-

A couple of things to add:
*Read 2+2 books
*Get reviewed by others
*Have some fun- mix in some freerolls or something to keep it fresh, build new skills

Dont burn yourself out Gestalt. Also set reasonable poker goals. If you aim too high and fall short you'll lose a lot of momentum and end up stunting your growth.

I can tell from experience that you're aiming too high. You're counting on a lot of BRUTE FORCE with your reviews, and that'll end up making you not like to play poker.

Read Tommy's articles on reciprocality. Work on getting yourself in 'the zone' while playing, and work hard on not playing when you're out. That's very very difficulty btw.

This is very good advice. Find a specific 'B' game that you want to learn (mine's 2-7 tripledraw), then use that game to blow off steam at lower levels when you want action but don't want to concentrate so hard.

I was going to mention burn out as well. Take breaks, have fun, and expect downswings no matter what you do.

Oh im well aware that if I did all of this I would get burnt out. My purpose for makeing this post was to create a list of ways of going about my studying. I do plan on sticking to the basic day/week/moth aspect but by no means am going to do everything I wrote about with every single hand. After I made this list I just thought it would cool to post it on 2p2 b/c it was alot of work putting together. Ok... Im off to read that link you gave me.

Speaking of which:

I just played some full ring for the first time in a while and was hoping someone would be willing to have a look at 100 hands or so from my session and discuss. PM me if you're able and willing. Thanks.

I've heard here and there about others reviewing sessions for certain people. How do we go about this? I often review my PT sessions but having someone else look at it would be an added bonus.

p.s. Nice post Gestalt, thanks!
