12-24, in which I check-raise semi-bluff
9 handed
Reads: MP1 (villain) is sort of an agressive nit, if you know what I mean. He's a decent player, but can be overly nittish and really hates calling down with a losing hand. CO and MP3 seem typical. Button is a LP fish. BB is a very ABC TAG. I have a tight image in general, and especially right now as my PF raises keep taking down the blinds and everyone is talking about it. PF Hero is SB with 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 2 folds, MP1 calls, 1 fold, MP3 calls, CO calls, Button calls, Hero completes, BB checks. Flop 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img](6 players, 6 SB) Hero checks, BB checks, MP1 bets, 2 folds, Button calls, Hero calls, BB folds. Turn K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img](3 players, 4.5 BB) Hero checks, MP1 bets, button folds, Hero raises... eh? |

Looks pretty good -- are you firing on the river UI?
(EDIT: the flop peel with just a gutter getting 8:1 is a bit optimistic, though) |

Re: 12-24, in which I check-raise semi-bluff
i dig the turn. on the flop i'll sometimes peel a gutter getting as low as 6-1 since your implied odds often easily make up the difference(and you aren't going past the turn UI so your odds are really better than they appear). in your case it isn't to the nuts as the 7 gives 9T a bigger straight, so i don't like that but you are getting 8-1 and you have a bdfd so i mind it less.

I like it, but what I'm really interested in is the river.
How do you play the river if he calls? What would you put him on? Will the pot be big enough to require a bet or will you be convinced he has a real hand by that point? |

[ QUOTE ]
I like it, but what I'm really interested in is the river. [/ QUOTE ] That's a good question. I think this is one of those times when a live tell helps. If he calls quickly like someone that got caught, then I would probably fire one more one the river, hoping to get him to lay down a missed draw. If he agonizing at all over the call, then I probably check-fold the river - this guy isn't bad enough to call the check-raise with a mediocre made hand and then fold for one more one the river. (this is all assuming the river is a blank - if I catch my straight or flush obviously I'm betting) |

Results, because they're kinda amusing: MP1 folds QQ face-up. NH, ya freakin' nit!

Re: 12-24, in which I check-raise semi-bluff
With the backdoor flush possibilities, this is a good flop call (for one bet). I would take a card for one bet on most gutshots on a rainbow flop, as you may win several additional bets if you hit on the turn.
