Default Car Insurance

Do all states require you to have car insurance? Here in Wisconsin, there is some minimum coverage that is required by law. But the thing is, the only type of insurance I want is the type that pays when the other driver can't pay for the damages in an accident (if he's the one liable). I have had the privilege of my parents paying for my insurance so far, but I will need to pay soon, but its a [censored] waste of my money. Five years, no accidents, no tickets, I don't need no stinking car insurance. Do all states have this sort of law?

it's not a waste of money. i went 6 years of no accidents, no speeding no nothing. then about a month after it expired, and i figured i would be ok until i got around to renewing it, I slammed my truck into a guard rail. would have been better off just getting off my lazy ass to go renew it. now im stuck for about 5k

Yes. All states require you at least carry liability. The type of insurance you're talking about is called collision. If your car isn't paid off, then your bank will usually require this as well.

Either way, you want insurance. Maybe not for the fender bender you might get in tomorrow that's going to cost $1,000 to fix, but for the house you might hit next week that's going to cost $100,000 to fix.

And remember kids, past driving performance is no guarantee of future results.

Plus you maybe Jeff Gordon but just wait till that 16 year old girl driving a suv pulls out in front of you smoking a cigarette and talking on her cell phone. Next thing you know your geo metro is going to look like a crushed pop can.

In Virginia you can pay a yearly fee (I believe $500) to go without insurance.

Yea but New Hampshire is not really a state. It's basically trash that the US got stuck with because Canada was too lazy to take out the garbage. <font color="white"> I kid!
