I open to $25 from UTG + w/ QQ CO calls, SB Folds, BB calls. BB is total fish and sees every flop, takes a long time to make every decision and pays off anything.

Flop 9h 7d 2s ($70)
I bet $60, CO calls, BB folds after long painful deliberation. So, CO, I'm told is very good, he seems pretty loose from my small hand sample.

Turn Ah (~$200)
I bet $100, CO calls

River 4s
I check.. planning to call a reasonable bet.

I hate playing out of position, should I have checked the turn here to keep the pot smaller?

River, he's not going to call w/ a hand I can beat I know that much.

I like a bet of 250-300 on river.

Looks like he has TT/JJ/88.. maybe 10/8.

In my playbook the river is a definite bet.

hmm... he plays pretty fast, prolly would've played TT,JJ more aggressively. He's not going to call my turn bet w/ 88. slim T8, maybe weak Ace w/ bd flush draw. He's definitely not going to call a big river bet w/ a hand I can beat.

I would usually check the turn and see what he does, and if he checks behind vb the river

It's over $70 on the flop, which influences his potential calling hands.
He might be calling the flop putting it on a continuation bet and planning on stealing or thinking his top pair is good against your big ace.
If you don't bet the turn he very well may steal.
It's a tough spot, but I'd bet.

You went from betting more than 2/3 the pot on the flop to betting 1/2 the pot on the turn which likely indicates that the Ace did not help you. 1/2 pot was not the right size bet.
Go 2/3 or go small value bet which still has a chance at inducing a fold of a weak ace and might induce a call by top pair non-ace kicker (for different mind-set players obviously).
