Corrupted Error in XP Followed by System Freeze
I'm running XP and have had no problems with my system since I custom bult it 2 years ago. Three times in the past 3 weeks an error message has popped up saying something about win32 and then my computer black-screens and is unresponsive before I can finish reading it. It happened a 2nd time about 5 minutes after I restarted, then it didn't happen until just now (when it black screened before I even saw an error message).
When I power it down then back up I get "windows has recovered from a serious error, send error report?" When I try to send an error report it tells me that it cannot because the error is "corrupted." ....great. I tried to do system restore the first time it happened but there were no restore points...which is really weird because there should be daily ones. I tried to do a system restore again today but they only date back to the 26th (which I think might be after the first corrupted error event) AND my manually set restore point no longer exists, which I created a few hours after the first 2 corrupted errors. Does windows delete old restore points automatically, even if I manually created them? Any ideas? Thanks guys. |

Re: Corrupted Error in XP Followed by System Freeze
sounds like you may be having some kind of hard drive problems. Either that or your windows install has started eating itself.
To start, I would back up all your important data IMMEDIATELY. After 2 years it's not a bad time for a fresh install, so maybe go for that option. if it were me, I would get a new harddrive (they're really cheap now) and install windows onto that (unplug old HDD first) and then copy my data over. I've got automatic restore points going back as old as my install of windows is (4 months). I don't think it clears them out quickly |

Check your event viewer for corresponding errors. Let us know what they say.
