Some antivirus program might be able to detect them?

Spybot, Adaware are good programs that you should run often.

Get SnoopFree Privacy shield

and

ProcessGuard

These programs will help keep you from getting them.

They are both free programs.

The new Windows Defender from Microsoft (www.windowsdefender.com) is quite good also. I recommend it. It found a keylogger on my machine that nothing else did.

you can run all these together. Snoopfree, processguard, and windows defender run all the time. Then you run adaware and spybot from time to time also. I also use avg antivirus with the firewall. You can set it so you have to say ok to each app that wants to connect to the internet.
