Default Sharing Food at Restaurants

You guys know the situation... You're at a regular restaurant (i.e. not family style) with a bunch of people, and as soon as the food comes, everyone's passing around plates trying each other's food.

Does this annoy anyone else? Is it really rude to not share your food if everyone else is sharing theirs?

Not standard at all amongst friends. You should offer to share but I find that people politely refuse, in most cases.

I go the route where you get a little bite of the food on your bread plate. This is among good friends though.

i don't typically share my main course. with appetizers/sides and stuff that come on separate plates/serving dishes sharing is pretty standard. passing around steaks and stuff is a little too much.

if everyone's sharing and it seems to be expected of me, i'd suck it up and share even if i don't want to for some reason.

it's kinda gay when one fat dude orders the whole menu and you eat like none of it and then everyone's expected to split the bill, but i guess thats the price of hanging out with fat dudes! (note that i'm not talking about mike l., he doesn't make me pay for his fat ass even though he does order the whole menu)

If my dish is really good i'll offer, if theirs looks really good I will ask for a bite. Standard.

i think asking for a bite is rude, unless its already been established that sharing is standard practice between the two of you.

I never pass around plates, but I will share small samples. If I really like my meal, and my dinner guest has something I don't like, I don't have a problem telling them they should have ordered something that didn't suck.

that's why asking is rude. if you don't want to share and say no, you look like a dick.
