religion issue with my son
so im 23 years old and i have a 2 year old son. I was raised catholic and my gf is a babtist, but neither of us are very religious at all. If we were both roman catholic i would just get it done and have it over with but we come from dif sects of christianity.
also she is black and im white, and my mom, brother, etc are telling me that its going to be tough enough for him being mixed ( which i think is complete bs) , and that i need to have him baptized or something of that nature. I was wondering if anyone had any exp. with something like this and could help me out. i mean i celebrate christmas but thats more of an american holiday these days. I dont really believe in org. religion at all its not for me. bottum line is that i dont believe in it but im being told it will be tough on him in the future. thanks for any help |

I just wanted to post in the thread before edfurlong has a witty one-liner.

Hi
Your post is completely devoid of any question marks. Was there supposed to be a question somewhere? and yes it will be tough for your kid in the future. |

I think the real question is whether or not you're willing to let your son face the wrath of eternal damnation.

Yo push your kid so hard in sports, hes naturally athletic. Then be his agent when he gets to nba/nfl and slowly drain his money to fund gambling?

Re: religion issue with my son
It will sadly be hard for your kid in the future being mixed... sad but true.
I will say though that your family's line about getting him baptized to somehow make it easier makes no sense. It assumes that either: 1- There is no racism in religion (lol, no wai!) 2- Baby Jesus will come down and beat up kids that hassle your kid ...overall it sounds like grasping at straws to get your child earmarked for the faith Do what rational people have been doing for centuries... raise your kid the best you can and let them explore life themselves. Help them handle stuff when theyre younger like dealing with ignorance and racism... dont forcefeed them a religion they may not care for when their older (its a personal choice afterall... one your baby might not mind; but a choice that when he's 25 he might completely disagree with. So why not let him grow and make the choice himself. Expose him to you and your gf's views, even your family's views, but let him grow as a person to have his own ideology) |
