question for potheads... (weed lifespan)

i use to blaze up frequently back in the day. now just an occasional toker, about once every few months depending on how i feel. anyways, i have about a half oz. in a zip lock bag in my basement from about 6 months ago. this stuff was very potent, hydro red hair etc... i opened the bag and the smell was not as strong and instead of being sticky it was rather dry, actually very dry. i wanted to smoke some this weekend for a certain special occasion. is it still good? does the potency change? how long is weed usually good for? and, im assuming a dry basement is not a good place for storage ( i had totally forgot about it). thanks guys. lol, i feel stupid even asking, but i don't want to show up to the party with stale dank. thanks.

BTW thought I'd add: a great way to store weed is to find a good recipe for a sweet bread (like banana bread), and bake a loaf or two with cana-butter. Cut it into slices, stick 'em in zip-lock bags, and leave them in the freezer. They'll stay good for a long time, and all you have to do is thaw them out. Now not only do you have a safe way to keep your weed, but you also have something awesome to bring to a party. Baked goods are a treat that's hard to come by [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

yes, it's still good. It will burn your lungs more and not be as awesome to smoke, but it probably retained most or all of its potency. High quality bud shouldn't be wet and sticky when you buy it. A good producer/dealer will cure (dry) the weed before selling it to ensure a better smoking product. Many producers avoid this because the dope loses weight, but it really is worthwhile. Even though your dope is beyond cured, it's still ok.

I like to keep it in a ziploc in my freezer. The fridge would work too, but I don't want that smell to permeate all my food. I've never tried a humidor, but I can see it working well.

the freezer is the best option. i have read that it's dangerous to smoke old weed that wasn't frozen b/c there could be mold in it that gives you a lung infection. that said, i smoked some weed that had been in my apartment for about a year and it was awesome.

This would be my main concern with smoking old weed from the basement, but you should probably be fine.

As others have said, the freezer is the best storage option, my roomate likes to buy large quantities when there is particularly good stuff around and keep it in jars in the freezer until its tougher to find the good stuff.

I don't like dealing with filthy stoners, so I've been buying an oz at a time and keeping it in my freezer as well.
