low-fixed player on the lookout for beginners NL book
Hi everyone,
I started playing fixed about a year ago. I would say I'm about of average skill(slight winner). I read SSHE and am able to grasp the conecepts presented in this book. Lately theres a huge increase in No-limit cash games & Tourneys here where I live. These games are filled with amatuers, no thats even putting it too friendly, its mostly idiots who may know that a flush beats a straight but are not sure what a full house is exactly. I feel a huge urge to get myself into No-limit and crush these games. I tryed to start reading "No limit therory & practise" but feel its a view notches to advanced for me. I would very much like to read a beginners book on No-limit & Pot limit holdem. I checked the 2p2 books database but nothing in particular caught my eyes, maybe I overlooked sth ? |

If you are a semi-decent fixed limit player, you will have no problems with the Harrington On Hold'em series. Parts 1 and 2 are pure gold.
You could also consider Little Green Book. |

Is Harrington good for Cash games ? [/ QUOTE ] These books are geared towards tournaments, but part 1 and the first chapter of part 2 are about concepts which apply to tournaments as well as cash games. If you are even mildly interested in playing a single tourney in your life, the rest of part 2 is also essential material. |

Battle_Boi -
I would agree with others that HOH1 is a good book for learning how to play no-limit and beating the games you describe. However, no one else has mentioned Pot-limit and No-limit Poker by Ciaffone and Rueben. For a long time, this was pretty much the best book out there for these kinds of games, and it's still very good. I'd certainly rate it higher than Gordon's LGB. Anyway, after about 8 years of playing exclusively limit holdem and stud (and reading every good book out there), I read these two books and started playing no-limit holdem. I did very well in the games I was playing, which are perhaps a little tougher than what you describe but still quite easy. Of course, after you've internalized the material in these two books, go back to NLTAP and TOP. Cheers wkm |
