Is there a tutorial on pokerstove or a thread on this site or any other than aid in learning how to use the program? Also I'm unfamiliar with the theory around equity that seems to be necessary to understand the results pokerstove provides. Can anyone direct me to a book or a thread to explain equity. I understand pot odds but equity seems to be way more complicated. Thanks

Equity is the percentage of the time you will win the hand if it goes to showdown.
So let's say you get this result when you have AsAc and the opponent has 6h5h and the board comes up 7h4hAd: Poker Stove results: equity (%) win (%) tie (%) Hand 1: 57.8788 % 57.88% 00.00% { AcAs } Hand 2: 42.1212 % 42.12% 00.00% { 6h5h } This means that the AA will win 57.88% of the time. Another way to think of equity is stake. What's your stake in the hand? How likely are you to get it? Hope that helps. |

[ QUOTE ]
This means that the AA will win 57.88% of the time. [/ QUOTE ] This is misleading/incorrect. It means you have a 57.88% share of the pot at this point. This is important because it includes split pot equity. In this case there's a 0% chance of a split pot, but look at A2 vs A3 and you will see that the equity A2 has is not equal to the frequency it will "win" the hand. |

So equity is the amount of times you will receive a portion or all of the pot?

Your equity in a pot is how much of it you will win on average assuming the hand goes to showdown.
