Good for her. What's even more impressive is that she did it as a freshman. That means she is only going to get better. Looks like she wrestled at 103.

From what I have heard that is not how it works. I heard that girls tend to get less athletic as they get older in highschool. She will probably get fatter and won't be able to wrestle as good as the higher weight class guys.

I wrestled 103 in High School in Pennsylvania. I was at a tournament the summer before my senior year where there was a girl in my bracket. I won my first match and the guy who was suposed to wrestle her refused to and she won by default. Then I had to wrestle her and won pretty easy. Of course I didn't hear the end of it for the next two weeks. Everthing from sexual jokes to you must be a tough guy for beating a girl. I think the ribbing would have been the same if I lost.

FWIW, while it does take some strength to wrestle at a high school level, quickness and understanding of proper use of leverage and counter moves that use strength against your opponent can win you a lot of matches. And in a state like Alaska, where the wrestling is not as good, this could get you to a state title.

I wrestled at 152 and 160 so there weren't any girls that heavy but kids on my team did have to wrestle girls and it was always a lose/lose proposition. If you lose to the girl it is horrible, if you beat the girl you still don't ever heard the end of it. I never saw a girl ever come close to winning a match though.
