Default tipping valet parkers

ok i live in a uppermiddle class suburban city, but i've never been rich enough to go to nice restuarants with valet parkers (parents cheapo) until i started to win at poker

so here is a question, how much do i tip them? i'm only a SSNL player so i can't really be liek here is a 100, but what's the appropriate amount?

also also any other things that OOT ballas wanna gimme a HU about so i don't feel like a hill billy in nice settings?

5 bucks after they return your car is fine. Nothing when they take your car.

Yeah, $5 is standard. Don't be classless and hand the dude a $1.

Since you aren't a super baller you can probably go as low as 10%.

Of the value of your car.

5 bucks after they return your car is way more than necessary.

if $5 were standard, those dudes would easily be making well into 6 figures. that's just ridiculous.

if you care about having your car close, or just want to be a good guy, then you should hit them on the way in and out - i'm generally a 5 in/5 out guy, but 3 in 3 out isn't bad - also, it will often be different guys in and out, and valet guys rarely pool tips. i parked cars in hs, so i may be a bit biased.

Standard if you have class that is...if you can't afford to give a nice tip at a restaurant that has valet dont go out.

Not all places that have valet are so fancy. I can think of a couple in Atlanta that are ~$15 entrees. I don't tip $5 there; I generally hand the guy a couple bucks.
