This is huge, at least for me since my 360 crapped out on me after 7 months and I refused to pay to have it fixed. It sucks that I exchanged all my games at GameStop, but at least I didn't turn in the 360!

FWIW, the minimum warranty any manufacturer of eletronics equipment can give you in the EU is 2 years.

It hasn't... But per my console the MFR date was 2/12/06, so it's definitely within the warranty period. I know I bought it at Wal-Mart, but don't remember if I paid cash, debit or credit... Most likely debit, but I have multiple checking accounts at different banks.

I would think that just knowing the MFR date would be enough, but the warranty info page states:

You charge it? Can get purchase info from Credit Card company probably.

I had my Xbox serviced when it died, and I didn't have to show give any proof of purchase, just the id number for the console which told them when it was made and if I was still under warranty.

I'm almost 100% sure it was debit on 3/24/06 per my Money records. So I have time to figure things out.

Yeah, I think I'm just gonna call the Xbox support number and see what happens. If this doesn't work out, I'll just call the bank I guess.

Just got off the phone with Xbox support... The guy was insanely helpful.

No receipt needed, just the serial number. I'll get my "coffin" in 3-4 business days, ship it to Houston, TX (another 3-4 business days), and then I'll get my repaired or replaced console in 1-2 weeks.

Yup, just called microsoft as my 360 crashed today when playing online. the red lights came on during a 2k7 match.... Sucks that I have to send it in, but better than nothing.

hasn't it always been like this? my friend has sent his in 3-4 times in the last 6 months because of overheating
