Default Xmas sprint or just bad for the game (long)

Last year I was a total degen and went to the casino on Xmas day (like you haven't before).

Anyway I went for the fun and not really looking for profitable situations. I ended up at a 1-4 stud game. The old boy to my left... well he was in pretty bad shape. He is a WWII vet, in a wheelchair, half deaf and more than half blind. So blind that he in fact has to hold is hole cards about 3" from his nose to read them. No way he can see the other players cards on the table.

Really, really nice guy, not slowing up the game anymore than the rest of the table. Fun and friendly game, everyone laughing it up and having a good old time, dealers making good tips, waitresses making good coin too, floor railing the game and laughing it up with us. We play like this 7 handed for a couple of hours.

The great fun game is ruined when your typical young douche bag shows up at the table. Why he did not sit at any one of the multiple 3/6 or 4/8 LHE tables with open seats is beyond me.

Within a couple of hands he notices the old boy is not really capable of protecting his hands, reading other peoples cards and starts targeting the old boy. Its not so bad that he is targeting the old boy, but he is talking smack after each hand, "damn can you even see me? didn't you see my raise with trips up? someone call the morgue, they left something here at the table!". The old boy was hurt in only the way a proud old man can be. This REALLY REALLY pissed me off, pissed off just about everyone else in the general area too.

I want to just take the douche bags head off right then and there, but didn't really feel like spending xmas day in jail. So I decided he was now the target and I was going to play poker with this a-hole and do everything in my power to help out the old boy.

I played every hand that the old boy or the douche bag were in. I played to beat the douche bag and lose to the old boy. And I did just that.

Well after the third hand I open folded the river to old boy, the douche bag calls the floor. He goes off on how I am cheating and colluding with the old boy. Of course the floor has been more or less railing this game since I got there. The floor rules I can play however I want with my money. Douche bag goes nuts, threating to kill anyone within pointing distance, etc, etc, the meat patrol rolls in and shows him the parking lot.

So was this just xmas sprite on my part, or a good way to screw up the game of poker?

It sounds like you might have been cheating. Unless I'm misunderstanding what you did, you were cheating. Although it sounds like this guy deserves anything bad that comes to him, you need to realize that what you did was wrong, and almost as bad, in my mind, as what the young guy did.

No one likes softplaying, but is it cheating in absence of an explicit agreement? Gut says yes, head says not sure.

In any event, maybe the "best interest of the game" clause covers you here, although I think I'd rather just have the douche removed for inappropriate talk.

Jail sounds better than what you described. Never understood how anybody could go to the casino on Xmas, especially to play poker.

Yep. Were you cheating? Yep. However, in the general interest of the game and being a good human, I'll give you a pass.

I doubt any of the other decent folks in the game had a problem either. I'd file this under "Civil Disobedience" to make a better, bigger point.

The a-hole got what he deserved.

You were cheating, and I'm completely fine with it.

Ugh.

What you did was wrong.

The floor sucks in this situation, too. For letting you do this, certainly, but also for letting the young guy berate the old guy. It should never have come to that.
