Book recommendation?
I need to use my Full Tilt points and was thinking of getting Sklanky's "Theory of Poker". I already have his "No Limit Holdem Theory and Practice" and "Small Stakes Holdem". I only play relatively small stakes limit and no limit holdem. Is there really much in "Theory of Poker" that is not in these other books that would be useful to me?
Thanks, Alan |

Re: Book recommendation?
sshe is the absolute bible of limit, and is heaps better than hpfap.
Top is very good at explaining concepts which u must understand, and most people dont. Most people swear by top, as do i , just not the same as sshe |

Re: Book recommendation?
TOP defenitely is a must if you want to understand the concepts underlying poker. After you´ve studied it you will crush most of the small stakes games!!

It's much better for games low limit games, I agree, but in general they just adress different types of games.. Also, SSHE is useless for NL. NL:TAP is more adequate for that. As for TOP, I read it when I was pretty new to the game and didn't understand much to be honest, and it has a lot of references to other games such as Omaha, Razz (a lot), etc. It's a great book though to understand theoretical concepts. |

I don't see how SSHE is THAT much better than SSHE. [/ QUOTE ] Oops! SSHE and HPFAP present the same basic principles. As SSHE states in the intro, it applies those principles to games where most of your opponents are playing poorly, seeing too many flops and playing too many marginal hands to the end. HPFAP applies those principles to games where most of your opponents are playing correctly. These questions come up regularly in the Book Forum. Read through old threads there for more discussion. |
