Default [Golf] What % of players can break 80 on a real course?

What is your guess?

75% of the people I talk to think they are God's gift to the game.

I mean, there can't be that many "good" golfers around. Breaking 80 is not an easy thing IMO and takes a pretty damn good golfer to do this on a good course.

Nice. How long have you played for before you could break 80?

Ever or regularly?

Regularly meaning say 60% or more in the 70's
Ever meaning they have shot in the 70's at least 1 time.

Regularly less than 5%, Ever maybe still less than 10%

Some one did a poll maybe decade ago, asking men between the ages of 30-50, " if it had not been for an injury or poor coaching, do you think you could have been a professional athlete?"
results were 67% thought yes.
There is some serious self delusion out there......

I score between 83 and 87 regularly on a very good private golf course (they host the Sunnehanna Amateur, many pros have played in it, including Tiger). I've only been playing for 7 months.

I think an "average" player, someone who plays year-in-year out, maybe joins a league one year but not the next, takes his game seriously and fixes something every once in awhile, but doesn't have enough time on a consistent basis, will average a little over 80, and break 80 on a good day.

I think most golfers judge their good days as how they should be hitting every day.

I heard somewhere that well over 50% of golfers cannot break 100 if they were to take no mulligans and count all penalty strokes.
