Evil Starforce destroyed my DVD drive
So the other day I was bored and I foolishly installed a Starforce-protected game (Trackmania Nations) onto my computer. Everything seemed ok for a while....but then my DVD drive disappeared. An icon for it no longer appears under My Computer. No disks (movies or games) play. Uninstalling the game didn't help, nor did removing the Starforce drivers manually with their removal tool.
Has anyone else here had the invisible-drive problem persist after removing the Starforce drivers? Any advice? I'm about ready to sue those Russian mofos. |

Re: Evil Starforce destroyed my DVD drive
This is the exact reason why I'm not going to go out and buy a game(Splinter Cell:Chaos Theory) with Starforce protection on it.... nifty way to kill sales.
I was able to find this: http://www.onlinesecurity-on.com/protect.phtml?c=55 good luck... |

[/ QUOTE ] thanks, but incredibly, even removing the Starforce drivers doesn't help. i'm really bummed cos I really wanted to keep playing Trackmania Nations. although now I guess I might as well reinstall it since my computer is screwed anyway |

Re: Evil Starforce destroyed my DVD drive
Right-click "My Computer", select "Manage"
Click "Disk Management" on the left hand pane, and see if your DVD drive turns up on the right side (with no drive letter). If this is the case you should be able to manually assign a drive letter (right click on the right side, select properties....I'm not looking at the screen right now so you may need to dig around for exactly where to assign a drive letter). This has restored "disappearing/hidden" drives for me in the past (although usually USB drives, and not from a game/funky program install). |
