Casinos Coming To Texas?!?!
http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/Search/Do...HighlightType=1
Local radio show here in San Antonio was talking about this last night, so I looked it up. There are obviously several hurdles to clear, but the bottom line is that this proposal seeks to add resort-type destinations to 8-12 large counties in Texas. If it clears the Texas Legislature, there would then be an up or down vote for the residents. If passed, the Texas Constitution would be amended. Then, it would be up to the voters in each county, and on a specific plan-by-plan basis. In other words, the county would vote yes or no on each proposal (the specific development, land-site, etc.). Any legal-eagles out there care to read the proposed new law and expand? Also, other than writing our representatives, what else can we do to push this through? |

Nope, just a lowly physics grad student . . . but I am sure I can pass this information around to interested parties and contact representatives and such.

Re: Casinos Coming To Texas?!?!
it is too bad kinky freidman didn't get elected governor -- as his platform said the first thing he would do was to legalize gambling in texas and use the proceeds from that towards lowering property taxes and improving education.

Re: Casinos Coming To Texas?!?!
I can't imagine this ever happening, but it would be awesome if it did! I just can't imagine that the state of Louisiana and all the casino companies there will sit around while 60% of their customers get the opportunity to gamble in their own state. Either way, it's been a long time coming for Texans to at least get the opportunity at something like this.

Re: Casinos Coming To Texas?!?!
The state is running out of revenue sources and an income tax is a third rail issue, couple that with property taxes that are becoming increasingly problematic and I think that state gaming is not a matter of if but rather when.
I know that there have been discussions on the Dallas city council about putting a casino on the Reunion Arena site as a way of lowering city property taxes. However, to do so they would have to get the legislature to allow it. |

Re: Casinos Coming To Texas?!?!
Not only is the city council already talking about it, there is already a full scale plan in place including all the needed funding to make Reunion Arena into a casino. All the inverstors need is the OK (by means of vote).

Re: Casinos Coming To Texas?!?!
I thought Gov. Rick Perry was against Casino type gambling?? If so, Texas will play hell getting casino gambling passed as long as he is around.
