I enjoyed it.

I don't really have anything else to say though as it has been quite a while since I have read it.

I thought it was an entertaining read. No real poker content, just a bunch of stories detailing his various hustles over the years. There's a couple involving ping-pong that are pretty good. I won't spoil anything though.

My advice though (as it always is for books of this type), is to check it out from your local library...unless you're a Slim collector.

You can get it used off amazon for like 4 bucks shipped. At least I got it that way. Well worth the 4 bucks, it is a great read for a plane trip or something. I read it when I was sick and finished it in about a day, but it was great. I literally laughed out loud several times, especially at his travel stories with Doyle and Sailor. By far the best non strategy book I have read regarding poker. I'm sure at least 75% of it is hardcore exaggerated, but whatever.

Take his advice. It is about a four hour read and you probably won't reread it. There's a lot of color and plenty of stuff to bring back memories if you're old enough to remember when Jimmy "The Greek" was a bona fide celebrity.

wow, this is a real trip down memory lane... jimmy the greek?? i didn't know till i read poker books that he was a big vegas poker guy (i knew him from NFL Today with irv, phyllis and brent... never, ever the same after the greek left, to this day).

amarillo's beginner poker book is also a nice read. has little sections on each of the games. roadhouse gambler stories too....

i concur on getting books used from different places like alibris.com.... very, very cheap.... or the library

FWIW, I play with Slim on a weekly basis. Man does that guy still talk a ton of [censored]!

I picked it up at a half price books for $2. It's entertaining, but the best part is that he admits his poker strategy book is pretty much crap.

Well, from what I understand, his poker stategy book was crap when it came out, but when they re-released it a a year or two ago, Greg Dinkin helped to re-edit it and the advice was much improved.

At least that's what I heard, can anyone confirm?
