Hey all,
This semester and last, a great deal of my friends have graduated and finally joined the workforce. Out of curiosity, can everybody post information about their first real full time job? I've always wondered what many people earn and what fields they go into. 1. Job Field / Brief position description 2. Location 3. College major, HS degree, etc 4. Pay level 5. Graduation year |

Hey all, This semester and last, a great deal of my friends have graduated and finally joined the workforce. Out of curiosity, can everybody post information about their first real full time job? I've always wondered what many people earn and what fields they go into. 1. Job Field / Brief position description 2. Location 3. College major, HS degree, etc 4. Pay level 5. Graduation year [/ QUOTE ] I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a major in Journalism and a minor in Criminal Justice. I turned down two other newspaper jobs, and a job on the Wisconsin State Patrol, for: 1) Sports Reporter/Copy Editor: Covered high school sports, University of Wisconsin football and some Green Bay Packers home games for a daily newspaper in north central Wisconsin. Also, when I wasn't reporting, I was in the office, copy editing staff/wire stories, designing sports pages, etc. 2) Wausau, Wisconsin 3) Bachelor's degree in Journalism 4) $23,000 per year 5) Spring of 1999 I'm in the same field today, although I'm the Assistant Sports Editor for the Wisconsin State Journal in Madison, WI. I make a shade more than $50,000 per year today. I'm glad I'm in the sports journalism field, although I sometimes regret not giving law enforcement a shot. Next? |

i dont want to go first [/ QUOTE ] I will [ QUOTE ] 1. Job Field / Brief position description 2. Location 3. College major, HS degree, etc 4. Pay level 5. Graduation year [/ QUOTE ] 1. US Dept of Homeland Security - oversight of FEMA westcoast operations. 2. Los Angeles, CA 3. University of Illinois Aeronautical Science/Psychology double major 4. US GS-? ($18/hour, $25/hour over 8 hours...we worked 12 hour days sometimes)...I was receiving roughly 3k-3.5k/month 5. 2004 For DHS I started on a perm-temp basis then offerred a full-time "on call" position after 6 months. I was promoted to team lead after 6 weeks. I turned down the "on call" position b/c temp-perm was in office only, full time was traveling oncall status to hot-zones all over the country (and US territories). If I took the job, I'd be working 18 hour days 7 days a week but I would make 100k+ (I'm 23 now). A friend still works for them and she made 123k the year of katrina but worked 12+ hour days 6 (and sometimes 7) days a week away from home with little electricity and water. I've bounced around with some corp gigs little after that, but now I'm getting back into the Aviation field with the FAA come late Feb '07. I never regret my decisions. |
