Dry pot question for the pros
This hand bugged me.
In the SB, I had a healthy stack and knew for sure that I was ahead of the shorty's range. Only 330 to call having invested 100 already. BB is a solid player and only has to invest 230 to play into a (now) 1160 pot. I liked my hand against the shorty shover, but didn't want to get into a p*ssing contest with BB just yet. Not with this hand anyway and 7 players left. PokerStars Tournament, Big Blind is t200 (7 handed) Converter on pregopoker.com UTG (t4035) UTG+1 (t1275) MP1 (t1750) CO (t1605) Button (t430) Hero (t2435) BB (t1970) Preflop: Hero is in SB with J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] UTG folds, UTG+1 folds, MP1 folds, CO folds, Button raises to t430 (All-in), Hero calls t330, BB calls t230 Flop: (t1290) K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3 players) Hero checks, BB checks Turn: (t1290) 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3 players) Hero checks, BB checks River: (t1290) 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players) Hero checks, BB checks Is it too weak to check the turn and especially the river? We want to eliminate a player, we want to accumulate chips. Should I have raised it up on the turn or river and taken my chances against BB having a 6 or AA? Anything else come to mind? Thanks! Re: Dry pot question for the pros
I probably would have bet 400 or something on the river. BB might call with a nine, pair, or even ace high. Checking is okay, assuming you're calling any bet.
I think pushing preflop is a viable option too. You're certainly ahead of shorty's range; you can drive out some of BB's better hands, like weak aces; and you're not on the bubble, so eliminating a player isn't of utmost importance. |

Re: Dry pot question for the pros
I would bet the flop.Since you didn't bet the flop then I would bet the turn. Since you didn't bet the turn bet the river.
edit: And I also would have pushed preflop. |

I don't even care where you bet, just bet somewhere.

Re: Dry pot question for the pros
Just to illustrate why the idea of checking it down here is so bad.
Three situations: You bet out of the pot a hand that beats shorty and he wins the pot leaves you with 15% of the prizepool. You take the pot down and bust shorty leaves you with 23% of the prizepool. You checking it down and the other guy busts shorty leaves you with 16% of the prizepool. So as you can see the amount of equity you lose by betting out a better hand is basically negigible when compared to the amount of equity you pick up by winning this pot. This doesn't even account for added equity by picking up additional chips from the other guy still in the pot. |
