Default misplaying small pocket pair

I seriously have no idea how to play small pocket pair...

I usually raise 4xbb with small pocket pair in any position.

And when there is raise or raises, I just fold...

if it is like min raise, I call and see the flop...

do you call 4xbb+1bb/limper with small pocket pair for set value or re-raise or fold?

I lost so much money with it and missed a lot of chanced to stack my opponents by folding it preflop...

thanks in advance...

The 5-10 rule is:

If if cost you less than 5 percent of your stack, then you have an easy call with speculative hands (in this case pocket pairs, which also are the easiest to play of the lot) ... if it cost you more than 10 percent of your stack, then you have an easy fold. In between 5 and 10 you have to use judgement.

I openraise the lot. I will often repop a late position loose raiser with 'em. (See dbitels 3betting post (in the faq I think)

It has to do with effective stack size. Usually meaning the smaller of your's or the villain's stack. Because of your chances to hit a set on the flop you should call any raise that is 5% or less of the effective stacks and fold to any raise that's over 10%. In between is kind of a judgement call based on particular villain and how much of his stack you think you can get if you hit your set. The closer to 10% the more you will need to be paid off when you hit. Here is a post that discusses pocket pairs, but not the 5/10 rule specifically, that helped me make more sense of this.

NL questions/analysis post

Hope this helps

I play 25NL and PP have been the most profitable hands for me. I play 6-max and raise them in every position. I consider calling a reraise if it`s about 10% of my and oponents stack. Take carnivalhobos advice and search for the 5/10 rule.
