Default Psychology books

I am very new to these forums so should this post not really belong here, I apologise.

I realise the majority of the post here are about poker but the question I would like to ask is if someone would be able to give me some titles/authors of good books which handle the very basics of psychology. I don't mean poker psychology, just psychology in general. The reason for my asking is that I am interested in the way people think, why they do certain things, ...I am thinking about studying psychology next year at university. I am currently in my last year of secundary school studying informatics.

I hope someone can help me out, and thanks in advance for all replies!

'Influence: the psychology of persuasion' by Cialdini is one of my fav. psych books ive read. great book that deals with manipulation on the basic 6 pillars of social psychology. great read, and very well written, with interesting stories used to highlight the concepts.

enjoy

Blink- very easy read, touches lightly on psycology/ various other interesting topics on perception/ phenomenons. I also recommend Influence.

btw I took my PSY100 last semester and it was by far the most interesting lecture of the semester...infact I'm thinking of switching my major to psych from my commerce program which I hate lol. hopefully you'll enjoy it as much .

For motivation ones... this is a good one...

Why We Do What We Do: UNderstanding Self Motivation

Other good books... depending on what you are looking for

The Unquiet Mind
THe Social Animal

Good magazine is Psychology Today

What are you looking for... easy reads or textbook material... That would help me give advice!
