Websites with static information(rarely if ever updated)
What is your opinion in making simple websites with some sort of adsense advertising that just has some static information in it that you rarely if ever update? You just put in a bunch of hours writing material for it and then you're sort of done with it with only occasional updates(apart from the advertising which you have to put some time into too).
Thinking of making some of these things just to try if it works. One of the many things i've written down is making a site of how you download music and other stuff for your mp3 player. I see so many people who buys mp3 players and are clueless of how and why they have it but all the hype around mp3 players these days caught up to them so they felt compelled to have one. I mean even young people(mostly girls though) who has used computers for years nag me on msn to download this or that song for them when in fact its the worlds simplest thing to do yourself if you just knew how etc. What are your opinions on these things, mostly interested in hearing your thoughts on my first question |

Re: Websites with static information(rarely if ever updated)
you have to realize that if the content is not changing, people can really only come to your site once. this means your traffic is basically the number of people you convince to go to the site. successful internet sites get a small (or obviously large works too) group of peple to continually go back thus their traffic climbs exponentially for every person they convince to visit. and convincing people to visit a site is the hard part of putting info on the internet.

Re: Websites with static information(rarely if ever updated)
Websites with static info will only work if the info is so good that lots of other sites link to yours IMO. Google tends to like sites that are updated often. It's not the only factor, but is one of many.

This can work if you find a good niche where sites haven't done much SEO but there is a reasonable level of search engine traffic.
Making a site like you described with reasonably well SEO'd articles should get you Google front page in such cases and a reasonable flow of traffic. |

[ QUOTE ]
Google tends to like sites that are updated often. It's not the only factor, but is one of many. [/ QUOTE ] they tend to love sites that grow. with no outside links to your site, google will prefer your site over other for the following reasons (nowhere near a complete list) 1) age of domain 2) pronounceable domain 3) shorter domain (while still pronounceable) 4) keyword domain (yes, it does still matter somewhat) 5) growing, updated content this is excluding all normal SEO efforts like keyword optimization, meta tags, image alts, etc. |
