call the turn, fold the river
1-2 live commerce. it's 6 handed and the guy who just sat down is asian guy and he's playing looser than the last time i played with him than id seen him play before. for instance a really really tight player openraised utg and he coldcalled with AJo. im not saying i thought this guy was good before, but he did play in a way that i thought he would make this fold. so that's about all i can say about him prior to this hand. i should also note that from previous sessions he always thinks im FOS and completely pays me off when i have him beat.
he openraises utg, i 3 bet w/ AQ in the cutoff, he calls, heads up. the flop is KK8. he bets, i raise, he calls. the turn is an 8. he bets, i call. the river is a 6. he bets, i fold (?) |

Re: call the turn, fold the river
I am not sure what your flop raise was intending to do. A call here will look pretty scary to him and get you a free card just as often as you will by raising since he will often play defense with a hand like TT or JJ. As played your river fold is good but I think you can fold the turn given the posssiblity that you are drawing dead. Seems to be a pretty silly time for him to run a bluff with 77 here even if he thinks you are FOS.

Re: call the turn, fold the river
i think the river is totally read/moment dependent. please explain the flop raise. he totally pays you off and thinks you are FOS. aren't you here?

Re: call the turn, fold the river
flop raise: im not going to go into too much detail about this raise because ive decided i want to write about this hand in my book. sorry. in short, i raise the flop with a K here and pocket pairs. i put him primarily on a pocket pair or an 8 and i like my chances of getting to the river for cheap against those hands by raising the flop.

mike\'s book
I can already see it:
"CHAPTER 1, THE FLOP I raise this KK8 flop with AQ. If you think that's wrong, it just shows why you'll never be able to beat any high stakes games, ever. Raising is the play. Period." Culminating with the river explanation: "I chose to fold the river. I could have gone either way. If you don't like it, get over it." Mmm... I can't wait! Ha ha. Just playin' Mike. -Eric |

[ QUOTE ] please explain the flop raise. [/ QUOTE ] #2 [/ QUOTE ] It's called the cheap showdown raise and it's very good against players who'd usually call the raise and try for a c/r on the turn with a good hand. Also, you wouldn't mind him folding trash. |
