Default Stud,2-10

Going to Vegas in a couple of weeks and plan to play stud(I know, the other guy who wants to play may not make it but I'm going to try ). My question is about the 2-10 stud game offered by many of the casinos. Interested in the ante and bring in and if possible the nature of the game. Other than this game the only other possibility within my bankroll is the 5-10 game at the Bellagio but I'm not sure it exists. Any observations relating the 2 different games will also be helpful.

This could probably be placed in the B&M forum but I felt real stud players would be here.

Thanks in advance,
carlo

Went to Vegas last spring, there's not a lot of stud other than $1/5. Mirage has $5/10, but it doesn't go every day. I played in it two out of four days there. Unfortunately, it played pretty tight, a lot of senior citizen locals.
MGM used to have $2/10, but has a hard time getting it going now. When Caesar's opened recently they claimed to be spreading $2/10 regularly. Bellagio only had $15/30 and up when I was there.

$2/10 has no ante, and a $2 bring-in. You can bet anywhere from $2-10 during each betting round. I've played this game in Tunica (Grand) and it was OK. Usually attracts the same type of player as $1/5 (i.e.-senior citizen). This game is best played with hold-em' players waiting for a game/tournament to start, or late-night hours with drunks.

$5/10 has a .50 cent ante, and a $2 bring in. The calls can stay at $2 or, the first bet can be completed to $5. Raises are in increments of $5 thereafter. 4th street bet is $5, with $5 raises. If you have a pair on board, you can bet $10. 5th, 6th, & the river are $10 bets, raises in increments of $10.

I like $5/10 much better than $2/10. It really punishes the passive callers with drawing hands in the later streets. Some think that $5/10 is still rocky, but I think that might be true of all stud games nowadays. 99% of all younger, inexperienced, lousy players won't play stud.
With that being said, try Caesar's for $2/10, and Mirage for $5/10 (preferably at night).

cmurl,

Thanks, just what I was looking for-looks like I'll have to head to Caesars and Mirage and maybe the Bellagio(15/30 may be a bit risky for me). You're spot on with the idea that most stud games are more conservative than holdem. I hoped the 2-10 game would have some type of ante(I'm tight also)-but dopn't relish playing at a table where everyone is like me -that would be disgusting .

Thanks again.

Bellagio now spreads 20-40 and 50-100. Both are good games. I'm not sure what other casinos spread in terms of stud.

I played in the 2/10 at Caesars a few weeks ago. The game
started up Friday night and late Saturday afternoon, but it wasn't a very good game. Short-handed, better players than one would find at a HE game of similiar bet size.

The game was no ante, $1 bring-in, $2 to $10 any time. You would expect to play super tight with no ante, but the too small bring-in makes for interesting implied odds.

It was nice to see a Vegas room promoting stud.

Thanks,
Looks like I'm going to have to change my plans-try 5/10 stud at the Mirage or if I really feel energized play higher at the Bellagio. Of course there is always the boredom(for me) of holdem which may be the best choice-I hate to be chasing all over town for the mythical stud game. Next trip is Atlantic City to play with "real" stud players .

Sam's Town has a .25 ante 2/4 game that's slightly better than the silly 1/5 no ante game found at Excalibur and the Mirage, but the Mirage 5/10 is probably your best bet. I didn't play there in January but I played there last summer. The game was short-handed on a Saturday night.

Ceasars is a very good room for low stakes HE, so if your'e going to play HE anyways you might want to stop there and get on the 2/10 stud list.

BTW, 2/10 stud and stud/8 used to be common in the midwest. It can be a very good game if you find players who let you draw cheap.

good luck

You're right about that. I spent some time in Michigan for business back in 2001 and played a lot of $2/10 at Greektown in Detroit. Very profitable. But, this game (and A LOT of stud games) should be avoided during M-F daytime hours because of retired locals/rocks. Senior citizens are usually pretty tight, and most have a clue of basic stud strategy. $2/10 is good for playing tight with no raises/complete bets (like $5/10 & up), then drawing and punishing chasers with $10 bets.
Some passive callers will chase you down to the river with gutshot straight draws on $10 bets. Unbelieveable. Played aggressively this game can be beaten. However, it does attract rocks because there's no ante, and it's a substitute for the $1/5 game in some casinos/cardrooms.

I've played a lot of stud in AC, and it's probably the "last refuge" for stud players. Trop regularly spreads $1/5, 5/10, 10/20, & 15/30. Taj has all those games and even higher limits. Borgata will occasionally spread $5/10 & 10/20, 15/30/45 is going pretty regularly and is GREAT. Every casino in AC has $1/5, and some will spread $5/10 if there's an interest list. Very different from Vegas and other casinos.

Stud is a GREAT game, I hope it doesn't die in live form.
