Default Ask me anything about Auto Insurance/Accidents

I was a field investigator & claims examiner for a large west coast insurance company for almost 2 years.

Feel free to ask me about car accident protocol, and what type of insurance you should purchase and what you do and don't need...

I didn't have insurance for 3-4 years because it's not required in my state. Why did I get charges "extra" for not having insurance in the previous 12 months?

1) How far do insurance companies go to confirm the details on an application and what are the ramifications for false information? i.e. lying about # of years of having a DL, making no mention of accidents, etc.

2) How important is it to have insurance continuously? i.e. If my coverage ends in February and sell my car then, then buy another car in April and start new coverage, how does that affect my rates compared to having continuous coverage?

3) I'm 22 and I don't own a home. What other details do I need to share for you to tell me what type of insurance I should purchase and what I do/don't need?

If your insurance co settled it I'm 99.9% sure they had him send in a signed release prior to payment. That being said, the release "releases you of liability". Also, depending how long it has been the statute for bodily injury claims is 2 years from the date of the loss.

There is absolutely no reason to file a police report. Both parties have valid insurance and there are no injuries. Don't waste your time and the taxpayer's money.

I didn't do any work with insurance in a state without insurance requirements. I can only assume it was a one time intiation/government fee charge. Call your insurance company to complain.

What would be a reason for not needing full coverage?
