TV Help
Ok forgive my stupidity here. Anyone know anything about TVs. I'm looking into a 50" plasma HDTV right now but came accross this line in a review of the one I want:
it lacks Digital Cable Ready capability. The omission of the CableCard slot means you'll need to use an external box to watch digital cable. However, this might not be a big deal when you consider CableCard lacks several features found on digital cable boxes, such as dual-tuner DVR capability and video-on-demand. I know everything is switching to digital in 2009. Is this TV going to work then? What exactly does this mean? |

Re: TV Help
The TV will work.
Until recently, for digital and/or HDTV from your cable company you would need to get a box from them. CableCards are relatively new and not yet widespread. You get the cable card from your cable company and plug it into the tv to eliminate the need for the cable box. IMO this is not a big deal yet as the vast majority of people are still using boxes. I wouldn't worry about it unless you're gung-ho on having one less component on your shelf. Unless there are advantages to cable card that I'm unaware of. |
