Which is the best building set? (Lego, Erector, etc)
Was in Costco today and they have all their Christmas merch including several big Lego, Tinkertoy and Lincoln Log sets (didn't see any Erector Sets but I'm sure they wouldn't be hard to find). Friends of ours have a couple kids, something like 5 and 6 years old. So we're thinking of getting them one of these sets.
Which one? As far as I've seen, they don't have ANY of these sets (as a kid, I had like all of them) so it's not a matter of buying stuff that's compatible with what they already have. And this would be a big, basic set (quantity!) not one of the specialty sets. They're fairly precocious kids, I don't see the difficulty of Erector sets being a problem even though they may be intended for slightly older kids. So which would you get?

I LOVED K'nex growing up. Tinker Toys are lame. Except for the thing at the Science Museum this weekend. I never got an Erector Set. I assume if I had that I wouldve liked it too. Lincoln logs suck ass. And legos...meh.

I think for 5-6 Tinker Toys are the way to go. My 3 year old loves the big legos. My four year old loves Lincoln Logs. I think next is Small Legos/Tinker Toys, then Erector at 9 or so.....

I voted Lincoln logs just cause, but I'd like to say that I had a [censored] of fun with my capsella set and a kiddie pool.

I really wish I had Star Wars Legos when I was growing up instead of the generic space dudes. I did build lightsabers for them though. Voted Legos.
