Default NL5 Best lines for extraction with flopped set.

I had been there for a while (75 hands or so) playing 20/13/2 which is close to typical.

Villain sat down about 30 hands ago (19/10/inf). I Wasn't looking at his stats and we hadn't locked horns. I had noticed that he c=bet when PF raiser but not much else. I did have the sense that he was a TAG, possibly 2+2er, based on the size of his raises PF.

UTG+1: $9.95
Esmerelda: $20.12
CO: $11.21
Button: $9.90
SB: $10.43
BB: $8.56

Pre-flop: (7 players) Esmerelda is MP1 with 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
2 folds, Esmerelda raises to $0.2, CO calls, 3 folds.

Flop: 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] ($0.47, 2 players)
Esmerelda checks, CO bets $0.25, Esmerelda calls.

I check hoping he has an ace, I am thinking hard about whether to c/r or just call if he bets. Decide that I want him to start thinking his ace is good and just call.

Esmerelda ???

I know I usually lead here pretty strong and most on this site do too. Anyone check this sometimes?

checks,

I just had a feeling he would bet again, not sure this was a good instinct to indulge.

Lead flop for $0.50. Just bet $1 on the turn.

The best way to extract money is to bet. Simple

You shouldnt check hoping that he has an A, you should bet hoping he has an A!

I guess to defend the flop play my thinking was this.

Because of the preflop raise I made villain will put me on AK and a lead will confirm this and at best I will get him to call a couple of moderate bets if he has an ace. he will fold otherwise. I am confident (although not sure) that he will bet the ace if he has it.

So I am not out much/anything by checking here and maybe if I represent weakness now I can get him to overplay the ace.

Turn play, yeah I won't do this again for a long time. (The odd slowplay is fun, especially when it works but definitely not worth it at these levels).

your opponent will not put you on a hand, they cant see pass their own cards, they're calling you down with A2 here.

I would recommend playing this fast, as he might call down with ak/aq/aj/at all the way. Don't overbet just, make a pot sized bet/ raise on every street.

IMO people don't fold aces at this level - regardless of your raising pre flop. Christ I had someone earlier today (at $100NL with AK), who called preflop with A4 and went to showdown with it on an ace king board. So just bet.

A line I quite like, that works well for me with a flopped set - is lead flop for 2/3 pot/pot, c/r turn. This is the line I like for this particular board (after you boat up on the turn).

With a non-boat on the turn and the flush draw there, I am leading again for pot.

Given that you raised preflop your line should be pot, pot, shove.

I agree that you should bet this flop. Notice that there are two spades on the board. If by chance he is playing suited connectors, why let him draw cheap? PSB flop and turn, shove river and hope for the best.

Ditto. Going for a c/r after raising pre gives away the strength of your hand (unless you're a habitual check-raiser, and villain has noticed you've made a habit of doing it). You're the raiser, don't give up the lead.
