Default does anyone have a pet snake?

I've recently become fascinated with reptiles & snakes. I was asking around - since I've never had one before, I want to start easy - something that doesn't require a whole lot of room, relatively easy to maintain, etc.

The suggestions have been either geckos for lizards or a cornsnake.

I'm sort of leaning towards the cornsnake.

Does anyone have snakes as pets? What should I know before diving in?

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Longest snake you've ever seen.

I took care of one for about a year in college when a friend was studying abroad. A snake won't give you any love like a dog or a cat, but it's extremely low maintenance, and it's fun as hell to feed.

Can't be averse to animal cruelty when having one, cuz you gotta feed 'em.

Lots of people dump them when they get big. So unless you're cold-hearted, don't get one that grows very big.

I really like reptile and would like to have one as a pet, but they are not easy. Most reptiles require live food, which can get annoying. Iguanas can eat veggies, but they get pretty big, which is a problem if you don't have a lot of space for a big cage.
