First of all let me begin by saying that I nailed this last year picking Bono and Bill Gates (though I forgot about Melinda).
I'm gonna guess that this year it will be Barrack Obama and/or Hillary. The spin will be something like "Democrats make big comeback in Congress, Hillary/Obama are Democrats, it's interesting how a black man and woman are frontrunners for president, etc." But I'm not nearly as confident about this as I was last year. My dark horses are Rummy and Al Gore. Thoughts? BTW, I'm gonna be really pissed if they go with another copout like "The American Voter," but I wouldn't be at all surprised |

If its gonna be a Democrat, it won't be any of those. They didn't have much to do with with the Dems winning Congress. The most likely Dems to make it are Howard Dean and Ralph Emanuel, Chairman of the DCCC. But those aren't my picks. My pick is Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. Our fate in Iraq is in his hands as far as calming the violence and keeping stability within the Government.
Edit: I know there's precident, but I highly doubt a villain type is going to get it. The suits wouldn't want to piss off readers. If Osama or Saddam didn't get it, no one can. |

I'm going with Ahmadinejad. Maybe he and Kim Jong Il in tandem.

I'll throw Dano2769's name into discussion.
Edit: I'd guess Kim Jong Il. North Korean nukes are a pretty big deal. |

If they picked someone evil you'd h ave every blowhard on Fox News up in arms about how they are supporting terror by naming them Person of the Year. |

If it's a Dem, it'll be Dean, but I can't see Time giving it to him when the consensus is the Republicans lost the election - the Dems didn't win it. |

I'm rooting for Ahmadinejad. If they have to go with a "good guy" I'll pick Rumsfeld. Maybe Al Gore is more likely, but I really don't want him to win, since he already gets way more attention than he deserves (he deserves none).

1. Pelosi
2. Rummy 3. Maliki The natural choice is somebody involved with the democrat resurgence or somebody involved with Iraq. The problem with the former is that there isn't a single individual that stands out. And I doubt it will be a group like "the new democrats" or a dumb gimmick like "the netroots", as they have now given three like that in the last four years. If it is an individual, I think it will be Nancy Pelosi. Even though she didn't lead the campaign, she is the public face of the new democratic congress and the first woman to be speaker of the house. That means something. Or else they could go with the Iraq story, in which case Rumsfeld and Maliki are both very possible. I can't see it being Obama or Hillary. |
